Homeland and time of occurrence: Afghanistan, antiquity – XVII century; height 64 – 74 cm, weight 23 – 27 kg
Description: Impressive individuals of this breed are distinguished by a nervous and restless disposition. Most of all, they love funny and active games. Their long silky coat is represented by black, cream, silver or some other exotic color. Afghans are famous for the beauty and elegance of their appearance in combination with amazing speed qualities.History of the breed: It is believed that the ancestors of the breed more than 7 thousand years ago lived in mountainous and desert areas, located on the territory of modern Afghanistan. Representatives of the nobility did not imagine hunting without the participation of these amazing creatures. Hunting was conducted on snow leopards, wolves, deer, gazelles and other animals. Thanks to agility, endurance, and swift running, the Afghans almost always overtook their prey.
Today, individuals of this breed, represented by three varieties (short-haired, with hair on ears and paws, and long-haired), excellently manifest themselves as domestic companions. The average life expectancy of Afghans is about 12-14 years.
Afghan (Afghan Hound) Games, entertainment, recreation: Afghans love to run, so they need an impressive amount of physical activity, which creates certain problems when keeping such dogs in a megacity. In extreme cases, it is permissible to solve the problem through long walks. Afghans will be happy to pursue the owner, riding the bike. Try also to find a suitable sports ground near your place of residence (it must be fenced in!)
Attractive features: Afghans are active both at home and outdoors.
They run incredibly fast, capable of making fantastic jumps.
These dogs play amazingly well with children.
Health problems: Hip dysplasia, cataracts, paralysis are among the most common diseases. Remember that these dogs are known to be hypersensitive to drugs. Avoid experimenting with aromatic agents.
