Akita Inu – calm, very intelligent dogs with a sociable disposition. The muzzle of an Akita Inu is very reminiscent of a bear. These dogs tolerate life well in the conditions of the city, if they are provided with the necessary physical exertion, and best of all manifest themselves as companions, and are also used in hunting and for guard service. It should also be noted that the Akita inu differ in a stubborn temper, which creates certain problems in the process of training.Breed history:
Individuals of this breed were kept by representatives of the aristocratic class of Akita Prefecture (Japan), located in a mountainous area. At that time, Akita Inu were attracted to bear hunting and as guards. The breed arose through the efforts of some disgraced grandee, who, being excommunicated from the imperial court, concentrated all his efforts on working with dogs. Over time, Akita Inu became an indispensable attribute of the aristocratic lifestyle, and by the luxury of the leash it was possible to judge the significance of the social status of the owner. Each dog was assigned a special caretaker, dressed in special attire, indicating his belonging to a particular aristocratic home and occupation.
Games, entertainment, recreation:
Akita Inu requires a fair amount of physical exertion and long walks. In addition, these dogs cope with the transport or movement of various goods: they can easily be harnessed to a small cart or riding sled.
Akita inu remarkably manifest themselves in communication with children, especially if they grew up in the house at the same time as them. As a rule, these dogs equally recognize all members of the host family. Incomparable guards, they are also considered to be “talking”: various modulations of growls create the effect of a kind of “dog” speech. For each member of the family, Akita Inu, as a rule, has a special roaring greeting.
Common dog diseases: dysplasia of the hip joints, destruction of the knee caps, deafness, diseases of the thyroid gland. In akita inu, in some cases visual disturbances are noted, for example, night blindness. It must be remembered that these dogs are very sensitive to anesthesia. They live on average about 10-12 years.
If an Akita are left alone for a long time, then very soon there will be serious deviations in behavior. An experienced trainer is needed for dogs, since the process of training is very complicated both because of their stubborn nature and special sensitivity, which makes it necessary to abandon the hard methods of teaching the necessary skills.
